Captain Rebecca D. Johnson is the Operations Flight Commander and current Recruiting Officer at Detachment 505, New Mexico State University (NMSU). Her duties include supervising, managing, and overseeing the training of all current cadets and recruiting efforts in the Las Cruces and Texas areas.
Furthermore, she is the Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies for all AS200/250 cadets.
Prior to her duties at NMSU, Captain Johnson was the Aircraft Maintenance Unit Officer in Charge in the 58th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, 58th Maintenance Group, 58th Special Operations Wing, Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico. Shed led maintenance production for 155 + Active Duty/ Civilian/Air Guard personnel encompassing 7 Air Force Specialty Codes (AFSCs). This included overseeing maintenance production efforts and flying schedule management for 8 CV-22 aircraft valued at $712 million dollars. Other duties included planning and executing a 1.8k hour flying hour program dedicated to student pilot production, and managing $30 million dollar aircraft facilities, and $1.4 million dollars of support equipment. Captain Johnson guided all long term fleet health for the CV-22. Prior aircraft history includes the MC/HC-130J.
An alumni of New Mexico State University, Captain Johnson commissioned into the Air Force in May of 2014 through NMSU’s Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) program. Since her commission she has managed aircraft maintainers in Air Education and Training Command (AETC) and aircraft from Air Combat Command (ACC) and Air Force Special Operation Command (AFSOC). She received her master’s degree in Criminal Justice with a specialization in Forensic Science from Aspen University in 2018.
