Captain Michael Vetri is the Recruiting Flight Commander at Detachment 505, New Mexico State University. His duties include the planning, directing, and orchestrating of events to attract AFROTC prospects from over 80 zip codes covering a vast region of Southern New Mexico and West Texas. Furthermore, he is the Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies for all AS100/250-level cadets.
Prior to his assignment as NMSU, Captain Vetri led a flight of over 170 Cyber Security Specialists as a 1st Lieutenant at Edwards Air Force base. He was directly responsible for the security, operations, and expansion of the base’s $75M network, to include the F-22 and F-35 network enclaves. Additionally, he led his team through a meticulous, comprehensive Cyber Vulnerability Assessment on the F-35 network, as well as directed the planning and construction of the 1,000-mile Boeing Circuit, allowing live data processing for the Department of Defense’s $51 billion program. The capstone to his Edwards tour occurred during the Command Cyber Readiness Inspection (CCRI) where Capt Vetri developed new cyber security tactics throughout the flight to secure the title of the Air Force’s #1 score on the classified network to-date!
Captain Vetri commissioned into the Air Force in May of 2011 from the United States Air Force Academy, and graduated Distinguished Graduate in Athletics. In June of 2015, Captain Vetri earned his Master’s in Systems Analysis from the University of Aspen, and earned Distinguished Graduate, in addition to being inducted into the Delta Epsilon Tau Honor Society. He is also an avid martial arts expert, and has instructed over 200 Armed Forces members in Krav Maga and self-defense tactics.
